Individualized SystemThe individualized system, often called the tertiary system, tier 3, or red zone, is in place to support students engaging in serious social behavior problems (and/or academic issues). Students receiving individualized intervention may have received "yellow zone" support already without showing improvement or engage in problem behavior frequent and intense enough to warrant immediate individualized support. Students in the "red zone" require intervention that is both different and highly intensive, as compared to the green zone and yellow zone. Before instituting an individualized intervention system, it is important to ensure that district policies and procedures support implementation of such a system. Investing in an individualized system typically requires out of district consultation, as well as in-district expertise. Districts and schools should have universal and targeted systems in place with fidelity as well. District commitment to a comprehensive plan and approach for all schools ready to implement is essential.
