ESD Trainings

The ESD offers a range of training and consultation opportunities. Trainings are available for PBIS teams and individuals on a variety of topics (e.g., teams implementing PBIS in the classroom, individuals new to PBIS, and trainings for teams supporting individualized student needs). Team trainings are typically organized into ongoing strands or series throughout the year. Training topics and formats vary each year and are based on Clackamas county needs and current best-practice research.

Training Calendars

PBIS 101

This session will cover the main components of School-wide Positive Behavior Supports. We will look at what it takes to implement PBS in a school from faculty/staff, to administrators and bus drivers. Participants should expect to come away with a solid understanding of both the systems and practices needed to implement PBS successfully in a building.

Check-In and Check-Out

Attendees of the Check-in/Check-out (CICO) training sequence can expect to learn the features of secondary interventions, the basics of the secondary CICO intervention system, and advanced modifications of the CICO system. The sequence begins with more introductory content and ends with advanced applications of CICO.

This training sequence is for individuals in schools who have implemented school-wide PBS for at least 2-3 years. Participants include student support team (SST) leaders, CICO coordinators, behavior specialists, or other specialists (e.g., school psychologists).

Attendees of the PBS facilitator meeting/training will receive topical training content specific to their role (e.g., leading effective meetings, synthesizing data), meet PBS team facilitators throughout the county, and receive differentiated support based on experience.

Facilitators and Data Analysts

Facilitator trainings offer an opportunity for facilitators, co-facilitators, administrators, or other team members to learn about new research and practices to improve the functioning of their PBIS teams and school-wide implementation. Two great features of these trainings are include getting a chance to meet other facilitators from across the county and share resources and having time to work as team.

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)

IDEA requires schools to conduct function-based assessments (FBAs) and implement behavior support plans (BSPs) for students with disabilities under certain circumstances. However, limited guidance is provided on how to conduct FBAs and how to use the information to create effective BSPs. The FBA strand will include a beginner session that describes the rationale for FBAs and a brief overview of the content. The intermediate and advanced sessions are designed for individuals with knowledge of FBA who are looking to improve their skills and better understand how to create and support implementation of effective BSPs.

Beginning and intermediate FBA sessions are designed for anyone who is interested in learning the basics of functional assessment and the critical features of behavior support plans (e.g., learning specialists, counselors, SST leaders, school psychologists, administrators). The advanced strands are designed for individuals who will be conducting FBAs and working with teachers to implement the plans (e.g., behavior specialists, school psychologists).

School-Wide Evaluation Tool

The School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET) is designed to assess and evaluate the critical features of school-wide effective behavior support across each academic school year. This session will training you how to administer the SET in a school, collect and record the data and assist PBS teams on using the data for decision making.
